She lay in bed and let the day’s words wash over her.
A soft stream in the mayhem.
“You’re a tenacious child,” her teacher said, eyes smiling. “You’ve tried and tried and made this grade your own. Not everyone would have continued, but you did. I am so proud.”
Tenacious, she mouthed into the dark and tuned off shouts and thuds and cries. So proud, she curled into the glow of newfound understanding.

Thank you, Rochelle! We are each of us given the opportunity to gift children with potential, every time we are around them. Our behavior, demeanor, words, gestures … they can do good (or harm, but I won’t go there), and what we say and do can become a lifeline, even if we don’t know it at the time.

Thank you, Dora! Indeed, teachers, neighbors, aunts and uncles, coaches, family friends – we are each of us able to make a difference in a child’s life. Every interaction is an opportunity to do good in someone’s life, especially in a child’s life.

Thank you! Yes, teachers and other adults in children’s lives have a sacred duty to help shepherd those children toward growth and hope and strength. Those who manage to do this, are doing good. 🙂

This is a great story for tenacious. I always imagine that word as a terrier who grips onto something and won’t let go.
