“Mama, he’s touching me!”
She tightened her grip on the steering wheel.
“Mama, he’s breathing on me!”
She inhaled.
“How come he always gets the window?”
She sighed.
“I don’t have room!”
She braked.
“Stop this or you can all walk home!”

Yes, I remember that very well! And we were made to get out of the car and walk… at least a 100 yds

Ha! Well, I think it is a reasonable way to ‘give people space’ and let them ponder the comforts of riding versus the tedium of walking … π

Oh yes, I’ve been that mother. But then so has my mother. What goes around comes around, eh? This is pitch perfect. π

Thank you my friend! I think we were all in a car for such dialogue enough times to recognize it … So I’m very glad I managed the right ‘pitch’ … π
Off to read yours!

Och, lawdy. I could write this scene 100 different ways in as many different places, but only because I can not longer recall two-thirds of them.
They’re all in their 40s now, and have had their own experiences. It was good I loved them, cuz i’d long before had enough. π

π I figure this comes in as many variations as there are families, cars, and configurations … π Glad it resonated (I think… ;))

π Let’s just say that sometimes being a fly on the wall is … well … π Also, I’m sad to inform you that flies the world over are reporting similar scenes in cars galore …
